Welcome to part three of the “Making of Can You Keep a Secret“, my new book released in 2014. I thought documenting the book production process would provide some insight into how my books come to life.

You can check out part two here.

Stage Nine: Getting Ready To Print

Once the text, illustrations and covers are finished, it’s time to put everything together. This is the editor’s job, making sure everything is in the right place. The final layout is then reviewed and checked to make sure there are no mistakes.

Stage Ten: Going To Print/ Releasing an E-Book

Then, finally, it’s time to send the files to the printer and the wait for the books to arrive begins. Opening the box and seeing the books for the first time is a wonderful experience and one which doesn’t diminish no matter how many books you publish.
This is also the stage where files are uploaded to online book stores such as Amazon.

Stage Eleven: Launching the Book

Now it is time to hold the long awaited launch of the book. There are two ways in which to do this, either a physical launch (I love these, they’re lots of fun) and/or launch the book on line.

I hope you have enjoyed a behind the scenes look at what lies behind the creation of a picture book. To create a book from a single idea has to be one of the most satisfying experiences I can think of. Lots of work along the way but well worth the journey.

Can You Keep a Secret is available from Amazon here.
